"Lamb shift operator for many-electron atoms: from ab initio QED theory to model potential approach"

Abstract: A Schrödinger-like equation for a many-electron atom is considered within the rigorous QED theory. The lowest-order QED contributions to this equation  are approximated by a model Lamb shift operator which is represented by a sum of local and non-local potentials. These potentials are constructed using the results of  ab initio calculations of the QED contributions with the hydrogenlike wave functions. Efficiency of the method is demonstrated by comparison of the model potential results for the Lamb shifts in  many-electron ions and atoms with the rigorous QED calculations.
