The problem of existence of suitable asymptotic observables is a key ingredient of classical proofs of asymptotic completeness in quantum mechanics and non-relativistic QFT. This problem is usually solved with the help of the technique of propagation estimates which is a refined variant of the Cook method. In this talk we adapt this technique to local relativistic QFT and prove the existence of certain asymptotic observables, proposed by Araki and Haag as candidates for  two-particle detectors. We confirm this interpretation by showing that the ranges of these asymptotic observables are spanned by two-particle scattering states. Our result holds in any massive QFT satisfying the Haag-Kastler axioms, for example in P(φ)2 models. (Joint work with C. Gérard).
